Therapeutic Applications
FCM has been approved for use in patients with iron deficiency who have had inadequate response to oral therapy, intolerance to oral iron, non dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease, or inflammatory bowel disease.
Comparison between Ferric Carboxymaltose and Iron Sucrose
FCM is better alternative to Iron Sucrose as FCM has comparatively high dose per sitting compare to that of Iron Sucrose and hence fast recovery of patient from Iron deficiency. FCM can be administered by injection or infusion while Iron Sucrose can be administered by injection only. Even though FCM can be delivered in high dose, the side effects are minimal as compare to Iron Sucrose.
